Our New House

Our New House2019-01-15T17:48:35+00:00

Over the next 10 years, the numbers of pediatric visits at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital are expected to triple. This creates a pressing need to build a new Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut to ensure state of the art care can be offered to the increased numbers of families in need. In many cases, the House is the critical link that brings together specialized medical treatment and the children who desperately need it.

We offer families the opportunity to be close to their child in a homey, supportive atmosphere. We have 18 bedrooms with private baths, a handicapped accessible kitchen, a dining room, a family room, play areas with all the amenities of a home, laundry facilities as well as 2 respite rooms and a fully handicap accessible shower room. We are not a hotel or a dormitory; we are home directly across the street  to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Our new House is adjacent to the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital providing an invaluable service to the medical community and helping thousands of families in the years ahead. By providing comfort, compassion and a sense of community, Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut will always be there to help families when they need us the most for as long as is medically necessary.

The new Ronald McDonald House will be constructed in three phases culminating in a 42 bedroom facility. Phase 1 is now completed with 18 bedrooms and 2 respite rooms. Phase 2 contains 12,000 sq. ft. of leased space which will be converted into 12 bedrooms when funds become available in Phase 2. Phase 3 will add the remaining bedrooms. All common areas will be built to the full scale of 42 bedrooms in Phase 1.

Our community fundraising goal is $2.5 million.

Why do we need a new Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut?

Innovations and advances in pediatric medical care and cutting edge services at YNHCH (specifically Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Organ Transplantation Unit and Newborn Intensive Care Unit) have created the pressing need to build a new Ronald McDonald House. The numbers of inpatient and outpatient visits over the next ten years are expected to triple.

As the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital triples its visits, so must Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut grow from 12 to 42 bedrooms to meet the demand.
