Letter from the Executive Director

Spring brings blossoms and flowers, sunshine and happiness to many.  In less than 2 months, we will move into the new Ronald McDonald House of CT. We have already moved families into the completely remodeled and refurbished rooms in the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. It brings smiles to a lot of faces to know that we will have a bed for every family that needs one while their child is receiving life-saving care at one of our great hospitals.

There are so many people who have made this possible. As one of the hospital surgeons said on our recent impact video, “The Ronald McDonald House brings out the best in the community. People donate their time, their treasure and their good will to ensure that others can thrive.” How true.

Today, I had the opportunity to speak to students at a local college about the importance of service in their lives. I quoted a famous doctor, Albert Schweitzer, who spent a great deal of time setting up a clinic in Africa, “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.”

I know that serving our fellow man does allow a great sense of personal satisfaction. As I look at our many volunteers who continually show up to help families get settled in, or manage an event, or cook a meal, I am struck by how happy they seem. We are so pleased to have them come and help out. Perhaps more importantly, the families feel a great sense of community and participate themselves in the daily activities of the House.

The children are another story! They just seem to go along as if they are at home and that’s what we are shooting for! At any rate, I do hope you will come by and see the marvelous Houses in action and the children at play.

Have a great summer,

Stocky Clark
